I’ve decided to start messing around with my new IBM R40 computer and see if I can get Luxer running on it. I should be able to provide a Linux x86 beta of Luxer fairly soon.

Offical Luxer Website
I’ve started to create (with the help of Frank Sandoval) the begining of the Luxer website. You can view it here: http://rmarcus.info/luxer
Java Code
I’m starting to post little Java projects. The page is on the right.
Luxer Version 1.0 Game Plan
I’ve gone thourgh the forums and have created a list of features I will definitly be adding to the first offical release of Luxer.
- Easy install. Download and double click, as it should be.
- More iTunes commands
- Remember CDKeys for different clients
- Phrasebans
- Vote
- Chat window
- Be able to change the access level required for commands
- Make custom commands easier
- Implement Mail
I’m sorry if your feature did not make the short list. I don’t know if I am even going to have time to implement these.
Luxer 1.0 and 1 year Anniversary Coming Up!
It’s a pleasure to announce that I’m almost ready to release version 1.0 of Luxer!
On December 14th, the one year anniversary of Luxer, I will be releasing the first official version of Luxer, Luxer 1.0!
I’d first like to thank the people who made this possible. Without iago, who wrote JavaOp, this would not have been possible. I’d like to thank Joe of x86 labs for helping me write the Java plugin that allowed Luxer to connect to JavaOp. I’d like to thank Frank of FSandoval.net for providing me with free and fast web hosting for more then two years, and for helping me with the graphical aspects of Luxer. I’d like to thank Sujak, for writing the original command list that I’m still working off of today.
Now, to the new stuff!
I have many features I’d like to implement for version 1.0. First of all, I need to work with most of the requests in the forums, specifically setting commands to have custom access and an idle.
I also want to create a real installer, which should not be too hard.
I will remove the arch1.sit and JavaOp2.jar files in the Luxer folder, and make the application stand 100% alone.
I will have Frank take one more look at the UI.
I’ll also create a website for Luxer, which you can now find here: http://rmarcus.info/luxer.
Ubuntu Advantages #1
I was bored today, and was messing around with my Ubuntu system, and I discovered something very interesting.
When you go to add something to a panel (panels are the gray stripes at the top and bottom of your screen), you can add something called a Deskbar. At first glance, it appeared to be a way to search your system for files.
It is, but it is also so much more. When I entered the text “test” into Deskbar, I got the option to search for files named test, look up the word text, or search the web. After a little bit of configuration, I now get live google results.
Then, I discovered something else. After entering “Thunderbird,” I noticed I had the option to open it.
I then made the connection between QuickSilver and this application. Deskbar seems to be the same thing as QuickSilver, except its automatically included with the system. complete free, and way more extended.
Luxer Beta 16 Released
I released beta 16 today.
Changes:
– The No Restrictions flag works correctly now.
– Major chat window changes. Try double clicking on a user!
You can download the new version here: http://marcusfamily.info/~ryan/forums/index.php/topic,15.0.html
OS Test
I’ve started writting a test that people can take to discover which OS they should run. It is targeted towards the gamer/programmer hybrid we see so often in High School, and may not work for much else.
You can take the test on the right, but it is not complete yet.
Luxer beta 15 released
I released Luxer beta 15 today.
Changes:
– The bot will not greet people that are already in the channel.
– Custom commands now work properly.
– Fixed a typo in the window to set up greet messages.
– Anti-flood tweaked, slowed it down more for longer messages.
– The set home command now works correctly.
– The bot will no longer greet people when the channel is locked.
To download the new version, please look here: http://marcusfamily.info/~ryan/forums/index.php/topic,15.0.html
In the window menu, you can see a new option — phrase bans. Please do not use this window, it is not complete yet.
I cracked Starcraft.
I’ve discovered the math behind Starcraft, and reached some interesting conclusions.
Essentially, I measured the mineral effectiveness of each race. These where the final results:
- Protoss:50.26%
- Zerg:47.42%
- Terran:39.49%
Before you start flaming me for calling Protoss the best race, let me explain.
The Protoss are not the best race, they are just the coolest looking.
These numbers do not represent how good a race is, it measures how effective they are in terms of their mineral to attack and HP.
If you’d like to check my math before I start drawing conclusions, here are the spreedsheet files:
From this information, I can also draw that each race has some units clearly better then others, disregarding player’s skills:
Protoss
- Zealots
- Carriers
Zerg
- Infested Terran
- Ultralisk / Guardians
Terran
- Vulture
- Goliath / Marine
This does not mean these units are better, because this is disregarding players skills.
All this means is cost effectiveness, and that the Protoss are the easiest, followed by the Zerg, followed by the Terran. More analysis to come.
